John Wilson Pattern 99 10-3/4 Figure Skating Blades
John Wilson Pattern 99 10-3/4 Figure Skating Blades. P attern 99 Ice Figure Skating Blades. With plastic skate guards and terry cloth covers. Fits men’s size 9 to 10 boot. Have been stored properly in closet for over ten years. Features, Pattern 99 in general. Skater level: Advanced to elite. To support more advanced jumps and jumps at full speed. Rocker: 8 ft radius. Quite flat as opposed to a spinning or footwork oriented blade. Mounting: Two or three long screws are used for the heel. Several, five or six, short screws are used for the sole. Blades marked L and R on small blue tape labels for your convenience. Some scratches on side. Wear on the bottom of blade in the channel. Tarnished on the side of the channel edge. Needs sharpening and tuning. Blades were kept protected with plastic skate guards and cloth skate covers. Given some hard skating but not abused. I put some wear on the blades, skating once or twice a week for several years. There are a few scratches and some channel wear on the lower blade. They were sharpened only by professional sharpeners at the rink, and tuned with sharpening stones. I was not skating every day and I believe there is a lot of life left in the blades and many sharpenings to come. Picks in very good condition. The tops of mounts are clean, no wear on screw holes, and they should mount with no problem. Pattern 99 is not a blade for beginners. Its design will support advanced jumping. It has two pick features that aid jumping. It has a pronounced tapered pick at the top of the pick that can be placed in the ice for taking off backwards on toe jumps. It has a downward angled pick, like a hook, at the bottom and medium size pick just above it that hold fast when taking off forwards. The hook also aids the end part of the edge jumps such as the loop. I bought the blades new at the Sky Rink Chelsea Piers Pro Shop and used them on my Riedell skates. I was active in figure skating in New York in the 90s. I was skating once or twice a week and taking figure skating lessons. I was working on harder jumps at more speed. I found that as soon as I switched to Pattern 99 with the specialized pick features and flat rocker, my jumps improved. I would then rip long jumps using my speed and the toepick to launch. The blades were great for a fast sit spin, too, toe pick just grazed the ice. They might not be the best blades for dance footwork, style calls for a rounder, more rockered blade. Put these used high quality blades on your skates, get them sharpened and tuned by a professional sharpener. And you’ll feel what I felt. Please see 8 photos which show the pair of blades from different angles. Also the cloth covers are shown in one shot. I hope they will show condition and most important features.
